From this month Ofsted will carry out more detailed inspections of local authority youth services. These inspections will report on how youth work is contributing to young people's achievement and the Every Child Matters outcomes.
The changes mean a separate report on the findings of youth work inspections will be published alongside joint area reviews.
In a briefing for local authorities, Ofsted said the enhanced youth inspections would mirror, as far as possible, the principles and timing of joint area reviews in order to minimise the inspection burden.
The changes will affect local authorities whose youth services have not yet been inspected under the current cycle.
