Ofsted to reduce early years staff

Early Years
A drop in the number of registered childminders has forced Ofsted to make 10 per cent of early years inspectors redundant.

According to Unison, which has been in discussions with Ofsted, theinspectorate has a surplus of early years inspectors, a likely result ofa drop in childcare providers.

Around 55 inspectors could be affected. Ofsted is now invitingapplications for voluntary redundancy.

"The morale and atmosphere in Ofsted is so difficult that large numbersof people want out, so we're accepting the process," said Unison officerJon Richards.
