What’s it all about? Education watchdog Ofsted has proposed changes to its inspection methods for schools, the further education and skills sector and initial teacher education.
It introduced a new school inspection framework in January, which raises expectations and gives a strong focus on the importance of teaching. But the consultation looks at how the next academic year might benefit from further revisions, with the aim of challenging schools to achieve higher standards.
In September, Ofsted statistics showed that 6,082 schools were judged "satisfactory", with nearly 3,000 of them having stayed "satisfactory" for two consecutive inspections. It is hoped that changes made to assessments will encourage schools currently rated as satisfactory to improve.
