Half of schools rated outstanding or good by new Ofsted inspections

1 min read Education Inspections
More than half of schools subject to Ofsted's new proportionate inspections have been judged good or outstanding.

Of the schools inspected during the autumn and spring terms 2010/11, 10 per cent were rated outstanding, 44 per cent good, 39 per cent satisfactory and six per cent inadequate.

A third of these schools improved in their most recent inspections, but 21 per cent received a lower judgement than in the past.

In September 2009, the watchdog started to prioritise the inspection of weaker schools, while outstanding schools became subject to a lighter touch regime. Since September 2010, outstanding schools have been largely exempted from checks.

This means the most recent figures include a greater proportion of schools previously judged to be satisfactory or inadequate.
