Data published by the inspectorate for recent inspections up to 31 August revealed four out of every five children’s homes received the two highest ratings.

Ofsted inspected a total of 2,216 children’s homes, representing 93 per cent of all residential settings for children, under the new social care common inspection framework (SCCIF).

Of these, 82 per cent were judged good or outstanding, while 15 per cent were rated as 'requires improvement' and three per cent were judged 'inadequate'.

The findings remain unchanged from last year’s data, which showed for the period to September 2018, 82 per cent of children’s homes were judged good or outstanding.
