NYA Update: Tower Hamlets provides quality services for young people

1 min read
Services for young people in Tower Hamlets have been awarded the National Youth Agency Quality Mark, in recognition of the fantastic range available to young people.

Tower Hamlets Council’s Youth and Connexions Service was awarded the standard following a comprehensive self-assessment and inspection visit.

The process highlighted a number of the service’s achievements, including its partnership work to reduce teenage pregnancies and youth offending, and success with involving young people in planning and inspecting the facilities and services on offer to them.

Members of the borough’s youth projects were able to give a younger perspective on local services during the assessment process.

Dinar Hossain, head of youth and Connexions services, is delighted that Tower Hamlets Council is one of just two organisations to hold the Quality Mark.

He said: “We were keen to show that despite the savings being made in central and local government, we’re still committed to providing our teenagers with the best facilities possible.

“Last year alone, we worked with more than half of the borough’s young people in one way or another, and supported teenagers in gaining 1,000 accreditations which will help them secure training, further education and employment.

“The wide range of projects, activities and services on offer means there really is something for teenagers to do, all year round.”

Fiona Blacke, National Youth Agency chief executive, commented: “Many congratulations to Tower Hamlets on achieving the Quality Mark. This award demonstrates the commitment of the authority to delivering quality services to young people that are focused on local needs.”
