Members of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) in the London borough are now planning a one-day strike for tomorrow (30 March) after 85 per cent of members voted in favour of the action.
NUT members were balloted in response to council proposals that could mean nearly 200 children’s services posts are lost in the authority.
Christine Blower, NUT general secretary, said: "Cost-cutting exercises such as those being implemented in Tower Hamlets will see the most vulnerable children being deprived of the services they need and their teachers of the support they require.
"While industrial action is always a last resort, the NUT cannot stand by and watch vital education services be axed."
