NYA: Agency welcomes police commitment to listen to young

The National Youth Agency has welcomed the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) commitment to placing the views of young people at the heart of strategic planning to ensure forces' approaches are targeted and informed.

ACPO launched its Children and Young People Strategy at its conference last month. A survey of chief police officers by the NYA at the event found that 54 per cent of police forces are already actively consulting with young people when assessing strategic direction.

Almost 100 senior police officials engaged with the survey, which asked "does your police force/authority routinely consult with young people as part of the strategic planning process?"

National Youth Agency chief executive Fiona Blacke said: "We are really encouraged to see that over half of police forces in the country regularly engage with young people. However, it would be interesting to know how these forces are undertaking consultation and if they are managing to effectively engage with those young people who are most likely to have contact with the police in the future.
