
With youth crime high on the political agenda and some national media baying for young people's blood, the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) strategy for children and young people is well-timed.
The strategy includes a toolkit to help officers get to grips with government youth policy, such as the Every Child Matters agenda, to help them understand young people's needs (CYP Now, 30 January-5 February).
But ACPO is not the first police organisation to focus on youth relations. At the end of last year, the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA) gave the green light to another youth strategy. The document called for all young people to be treated with respect, no matter how they come into contact with the police (CYP Now, 31 October-6 November 2007) and set out four performance areas the MPA hopes will make a difference to their lives.
