The Department for Education and Skills studied school meals in 151English primary schools and concluded that more must be done to improvechildren's diets.
The researchers found that children opt for unhealthy food when it wasavailable and that just under a quarter of the schools met nationalnutritional standards. The researchers concluded that schools shouldrestrict children's food choices.
A separate DfES report on diet and education, published last week, saidmaintaining adequate glucose levels helped children learn. It also foundthat the learning ability of children with nutritional deficienciesimproved if they took supplements.
