1 min read
Nutritional guidelines on school meals need to be "more explicit" about the dietary requirements of faith communities, according to a Muslim community group that has secured the right for children to eat halal food at lunchtime.

Rachid Choaibi, project co-ordinator of the Moroccan Community Welfare Group, said current loopholes in the law were "quite frustrating".

His organisation helped Muslim parents at Bevington Primary School in North Kensington secure the right for their children to be served halal meals, a day before the High Court was due to consider their case.

Although the Department for Education and Skills issues nutritional guidelines, it is up to schools and local authorities to decide how to implement them.
