More than 60,000 people in the UK became unemployed between April and June this year, according to the Office for National Statistics. More than a third were 25 and under.
A further 12,000 under-25s were considered economically inactive during the period.
The number of young people not in employment, education or training (Neet) in the UK is estimated to be 1.2 million.
Of these so-called Neets, 750,000 are thought to be economically inactive, which means they are not actively looking for a job or are unable to work.
