However, an informal survey of 1,005 visitors carried out by Frank between November and December last year revealed a drop in enquiries, with an average of 750 people approaching the service daily. Advisers responded to around 2,000 emails during that period.
Around two in three callers requested general information about drugs, while one in five asked specifically about cannabis.
In common with the experience of other helplines for young people, the majority of callers (48 per cent) were female, accounting for 2,984 enquiries.
Thirty-five per cent of callers (2,170) were male, while the rest requested that no information be held about their enquiry.
