Research by The Foyer Federation found that the vulnerable young people who live in Foyers had serious difficulties in accessing dentistry and other health services.
In six of England's nine regions, Foyer residents said they faced occasional or significant problems in finding a dentist.
Helen Old, health programme manager at the federation, says: "Our survey highlights a serious lack of provision for dentistry services that the Government must address in the forthcoming public health white paper."
The wider problems faced by Foyer residents partly explain why many find accessing dentists nearly impossible. "It is harder for people who move a lot to get registered," explains Old. "Also, because many have chaotic lives and dentists often strike off people who miss appointments, they are more at risk of being struck off the register."
