NORTHERN IRELAND: Charity head to be first commissioner

Williams will take up the role on 1 October. He said: "I am determined to be an influential and independent voice for children."

The appointment prompted renewed calls for a Commissioner for England by children and young people's charity NSPCC, which called for it to be announced in the forthcoming children at risk green paper "as a matter of priority".
