1 min read
The Government last week launched a scheme in Northern Ireland to approve childcare services provided in a child's home.

The Home Childcarer Approval scheme will allow parents to employ homechildcarers who are suitably qualified to work with children and havehad background checks carried out by health and social servicestrusts.

Northern Ireland's health minister Shaun Woodward MP said: "Thebackground checks will give parents a degree of reassurance and providea good starting point when selecting home childcare."

Parents will also be able to apply for money to help pay for approvedchildcarers through Working Tax Credits and childcare vouchers.

A Northern Childcare Partnership spokeswoman said: "(The scheme) allowsparents to have more choice and supports those parents who work outsidetraditional hours. It also allows those who use the scheme the sameaccess to Working Tax Credits as those using registered childminders andchildcare facilities."
