
With the UK due to become a signatory of a Europe-wide convention on child trafficking in one month, 12 local authorities are testing a toolkit that aims to help workers identify victims and offer support.
The ratification of the Council of Europe Convention Against Human Trafficking (see box) will come into force on 1 April. As part of its commitment, the government has to introduce a national process for recognising trafficked people.
But on top of this requirement, a pilot that began in January by Camden, Croydon, Glasgow, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Islington, Kent, Manchester, Slough, Solihull and Southwark is focusing on the protection of children.
