As the government drafts its schools white paper, a ministerial advisory group has been enlisted to help put its education plans into action. Lauren Higgs reports on the points they are discussing.

From day one, the coalition government has been strident and forthright about its ambition to free all schools from the burden of local authority control.

With 142 academies set to open this academic year, and 16 free schools scheduled to launch next September, Education Secretary Michael Gove's vision for a more autonomous and diverse education system is becoming a reality. But the precise function of the local authority in this new and varied schools market has remained, until now, largely unknown.

Last week, CYP Now revealed a number of proposals being considered by the government for inclusion in its forthcoming schools white paper.
