The headmaster who employed Ian Huntley has admitted that he did not check his references. Howard Gilbert told the Bichard inquiry that he breached government regulations that said it was not good practice to accept them at face value. The company responsible for co-ordinating checks on staff at several Cambridgeshire schools did not verify some of Huntley's details. www.bichardinquiry.org.uk.
