NEWS IN BRIEF: First public session for inquiry over Soham murders

The independent inquiry set up in the wake of the Soham trials held its first public session after Children Now went to press. The inquiry, chaired by Sir Michael Bichard, will review child protection procedures in Humberside and Cambridgeshire, and examine the way police checks into Ian Huntley's background were carried out. Public hearings are expected to last three weeks and transcripts will be posted at www.bichardinquiry.org.uk.
