
The initiative, which is being hailed as a less burdensome replacement for the field forces of the previous government, is to be co-ordinated by a new body made up of local government partners.
The Children's Improvement Board, which comprises of representatives from the Association of Directors of Children's Services (ADCS), the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives and the Local Government Group, will take responsibility for commissioning support for councils and help local leaders to implement central government policy.
Peer challenge
Eventually, the board is expected to take over the management of the DCS leadership programme, run by the National College, among other sector-led schemes.
