1 min read Management Social Care
Liverpool City Council's former chief executive has been appointed director of children's services self-improvement at the Children's Improvement Board.

A former teacher, Colin Hilton was director of education in St Helens before becoming director of children’s services and then chief executive of Liverpool council. He left Liverpool council in 2010 and worked as an independent consultant until recently.

Debbie Jones, chair of the Children's Improvement Board, said Hilton’s "varied experience and expertise" would stand him in good stead "to help councils achieve high-quality children’s services in the wake of reforms that shift responsibility for service improvement from central to local government".

She went on: "Colin joins the Children's Improvement Board at an important time for councils, which are transforming the way they deliver vital services to young people while managing sizable cuts to their budgets."
