Colin Hilton to lead independent children's trust in Doncaster

The former director of the Children's Improvement Board (CIB) has been appointed by Education Secretary Michael Gove to turn around child protection services in Doncaster.

Colin Hilton, who was director of the CIB until July last year, will take up the role of chair of Doncaster Children’s Trust when it launches in shadow form on 1 April.

Under government plans to improve services at Doncaster, child protection services will be transferred from the council to the trust for a period of up to 10 years, with a review after five years.

The transfer is being overseen jointly by Doncaster Council and a government-appointed commissioner – the current director of children’s services at Hackney, Alan Wood.

In a letter to Hilton, Gove said the role of the chair is “critical to the success of the trust”.
