The preliminary findings reveal that 42 per cent of respondents consider weight as the biggest influence on young people's perception of their body image. Almost 40 per cent of respondents said that they were not happy with their body image and one-third had sought help because they were worried about their body image, often turning to their friends for support and advice.
Young NCB NI member Jonathan from Banbridge comments: "We are all aware of the pressures facing young people, including from the media and our friends to look good. Often these pressures can result in depression or eating disorders." As part of their ongoing work, Young NCB NI members are calling on government departments to help young people deal with the issues surrounding body image.
