NCB Now: Young inspectors regions chosen

1 min read
The Look Listen Change consortium has begun work with local authorities across England to give disadvantaged and marginalised young people greater influence over services in their areas through Youth4U - Young Inspectors.

The first two rounds of applications to run the Youth4U - Young Inspectors programme have now closed and the following authorities have been chosen: Barking and Dagenham, Bedfordshire, Bromley, Calderdale, Central Nottinghamshire, Darlington, Devon, Dorset, Islington, Knowsley, Medway, Northamptonshire, Northumberland, Salford, Staffordshire, Stockport, Sutton and Swindon.

Paulina Filippou, communications co-ordinator at Look Listen Change, says: "This unique programme supports adult support workers to recruit, train and support young people to investigate and assess how local services are doing and help them to improve."

The programme will also enable the young people to engage their peers in influencing policies and services across areas such as health, neighbourhood renewal, transport and community service. It will provide a much-needed channel to feed back the views of young people to local authorities and service providers. In addition, the young people will have the opportunity to achieve an accreditation.
