NCB Now: The effect of the environment on child health

1 min read
A growing amount of research shows that access to green spaces and nature has positive health effects for children and young people, including reduced stress and improved concentration. Studies have even shown it to reduce the symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Over the past two years, NCB has been building its work around sustainable living, climate change and children and young people's wellbeing. The work has been shaped by young people, and includes supporting children and young people to make and sustain lifestyle choices that are good for themselves, their communities and the environment, and helping the children's third sector to develop its contribution to this important agenda.

NCB is developing a broad programme of work, including two key projects around sustainable living and climate change. Small Steps to a Sustainable Future aims to help children and young people become activists for sustainable living and climate change, and to raise awareness of children and young people's voices. Building a Climate Smart Future aims to make children and youth organisations in the UK "climate smart", enabling them to effectively manage the risks and opportunities presented by climate change.
