NCB Now: Play in co-ordinated services briefing

The Children's Play Council, which is based at NCB, is urging directors of children's services to recognise the importance of play when making decisions about co-ordinated services.

The council has published a briefing showing how the development and provision of local play services and spaces can help authorities achieve the key outcomes for children set out in Every Child Matters.

The briefing contains advice on what children's services and trusts can do to improve play opportunities, such as identifying play champions, planning strategically and ensuring adequate, ongoing resources.

It stresses that local play provision is often complex as children benefit most from a variety of play experiences.
