ABA has been lobbying for recording to be a statutory requirement for schools for many years. If handled well, the alliance believes these new measures will support children and young people in reporting bullying and in understanding that targeted action will follow. It will also help schools recognise that bullying is unacceptable and must be dealt with seriously.
"Bullying is commonly a pattern of behaviour," said Chris Cloke, chair of ABA. "Without adequate recording, the repeated nature of this behaviour can be lost. Recording, monitoring and analysing bullying behaviour is an essential part of managing the effective reduction of bullying in all schools."
