NCB Now: Plans afoot for Playday 2005

Local play providers are being encouraged to plan events to celebrate Playday on 3 August.

Playday is the biggest annual play celebration in the country. Events are organised by local practitioners, co-ordinated by the Children's Play Council (CPC) and the Children's Society and sup-ported by the British Toy and Hobbies Association.

The theme for this year is Fit for Play. "Outdoor play is essential for children's health, happiness and fitness," explained Issy Cole-Hamilton, CPC's research and policy officer. "However their environment is often not fit for them to play in.

"Play environments should be safe, accessible and properly maintained."
