Organised by local practitioners Playday events can be huge publicget-togethers in parks, or small groups of children marking the day in aspecial way. Co-ordinated by the Children's Play Council with PlayboardNorthern Ireland, Play Scotland and Play Wales, Playday is the biggestannual celebration of play in the country.
The theme for 2006, Play, naturally, highlights the fact that althoughplay is a natural part of children's lives modern society has erodedplay opportunities for children both in towns and in thecountryside.
Playday is not just about giving children and families a great day out,but aims to communicate serious messages about play and children.Through play, children learn about themselves and the world around themand it helps them develop confidence, self-esteem and creativity.
