Although unpaid, this honorary role has attracted national names in thepast, reflecting NCB's influential position in the children's sector. Aswell as having a deep knowledge of children and young people's issues,applicants will need senior-level experience in organisationaldevelopment and a commitment to NCB's vision of joined-up services. Overthe past six years, Sofer has spent up to a day a week in the role.
Sofer will stand down in November after completing two terms. NCB chiefexecutive Paul Ennals paid tribute to her contribution, saying: "Whoeverreplaces Anne Sofer as NCB's chair will have a real challenge in livingup to the standards she has set. Wise, clear thinking, supportive yetchallenging, she has been a powerful advocate for children and youngpeople, and helped steer NCB through a period of growth.
