Children in Scotland launches manifesto.

In the run-up to next year's Scottish elections, Children in Scotlandwill be launching its own manifesto at a special event being held at theScottish Parliament on Wednesday 28 June.

The manifesto, Better lives for Scotland's children and young people,will be used by Children in Scotland's members to ensure thatpoliticians are clear about the organisations' aspirations - and theirpriorities.

Better lives for Scotland's children and young people, and a series ofissue-specific briefings, will be shared with all political parties,Children in Scotland members, MSPs and other key audiences this summer.Prior to the elections, Children in Scotland will publish the responsesfrom the political parties.

Smacking alternatives examined in Wales

On 15 May Jane Hutt, the Welsh Assembly's minister for children,launched a week-long campaign promoting alternatives to smackingchildren. The event was organised by Children Are Unbeatable!, analliance of more than 350 organisations of which Children in Wales is along-standing member.

Children Are Unbeatable! is campaigning to change the law so that allchildren in England and Wales have the same legal protection as adultsagainst being hit. It also promotes positive, non-violentdiscipline.

The aim of the event was to bring parents together to share theirexperiences and learn new ways of encouraging good behaviour.
