NCB Now: News from Scotland - Alcohol on the agenda

Following the success of Scotland's smoking ban and plans to raise the legal age for buying cigarettes from 16 to 18, the focus of health policy in Scotland is now shifting to alcohol.

Reflecting this, Children in Scotland is organising a conference,Unhappy Hours: A Culture of Binge Drinking and Violence, to be held inEdinburgh on 14 February. It aims to provide an understanding of some ofthe risks children and young people face with alcohol; consider what canbe learnt from the smoking ban and how to implement robust alcoholpolicies to encourage an attitude of responsible drinking; and explorewhat needs to happen to change the drink culture. The conference willhear from Scotland's health minister, Andy Kerr MSP, and frontlinestaff.
