The Scottish Parliament passed the Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Bill 2009 in May. This bill corrected unintended consequences discovered during the first years of implementing the Additional Support for Learning Act 2004. It improved this landmark legislation in several ways, from making it easier for children to access additional early years support to strengthening the duty to share information.
Bronwen Cohen of Children in Scotland said: "The Scottish Government and the opposition parties are to be congratulated, not only for making excellent legislation even better, but also for resisting the temptation to allow political differences to take precedence over the needs of children."
