Children in Scotland will lead a two-year cross-European research programme to look at how improving the qualifications and skills of early years workers can reduce poverty and improve social inclusion.
The research will produce a picture of the skill levels across Scotland and the UK in relation to levels of poverty and social inclusion. Research will also take place in Poland, Norway, Italy, Slovenia, France, Denmark, Portugal, Sweden and Hungary.
Children's minister Adam Ingram said: "Developing the skills of those delivering services is key to helping us give every child in Scotland the best possible start in life."
Chief executive Bronwen Cohen said: "A lot more can be achieved if those working with children are appropriately qualified and skilled."
