Amid debate about the constraints our risk-averse society places on children, industry practitioners gathered in Stirling in October to consider how understanding risk is vital in building children's confidence.
Children, Risk and Responsibility: Encouraging Confidence in a Risk-Averse Society, organised by Children in Scotland and Play Scotland, looked at the importance of supporting children to experience risk, and the role of health and safety.
Adam Ingram, director of children's services regulation for the Care Commission, said: "By supporting young people to explore through play, we can promote their physical development and confidence. There is a cotton-wool culture that has developed, which is why we are leading a national debate around sensible approaches to play and risk."
