NCB Now: Network uncovers best practice for listening

1 min read
The Young Children's Voices Network (YCVN) allows practitioners to share ideas about listening to young children and provides a platform for young children's views to be fed into service policy, planning and design.

Research on this issue has grown over the last decade and, due to thethe Childcare Act 2006, the importance of listening to children isfinally being taken seriously. This legislation places a duty on localauthorities in England "to have regard to the views of young children inthe design, development and delivery of early childhood services." TheEarly Childhood Unit lobbied for this duty and now works to supportlocal authorities to meet it.

Through YCVN, local authorities are able to share ideas and identifybest practice. Evaluation from the piloting stage is now under way andguidance, consultancy and practice development packages will beavailable to all local authorities from March 2009.
