Lady Callaghan, who was a staunch supporter of children's rights, was NCB's vice chair from 1982 to 1989 and later the charity's vice president.
She made a significant contribution to the development of the children's sector and was particularly active in the area of healthcare, working closely with Great Ormond Street Hospital.
"A powerful advocate for children, Lady Callaghan expressed commitment to joined-up approaches long before they were fashionable," said Paul Ennals, NCB's chief executive.
