NCB Now: Membership helps improved LA

1 min read
In 2007, a significant increase in the number of young people attaining five A* to C grades at GCSE in Key Stage 4 made Halton in Cheshire the most improved local authority in the country.

In addition, its improvement in Key Stage 2 attainment in English and maths at level 4+ was impressive and resulted in the borough being ranked second most improved nationally. Halton also topped the national league table for most improved results for five A* to C grades including English and maths.

Halton is extremely proud of the work of the schools in its area and the successes they have achieved.

The council boasts an exciting learning community where professional development of colleagues is essential. Gerald Meehan, strategic director for the children and young people directorate at Halton, says: "As members of NCB we have valued its support and have used briefings, the member website and conferences to develop our knowledge."
