Our best practice: Problems shared ... problems solved

At Unite the Union and the Community Practitioners and Health Visitors Association (CPHVA), our health visitor members are very aware that networks of friends are important in a mother's ability to cope - when things start to go wrong, most people start by turning to their friends.

Netmums helps mums build these networks. However, on some occasions, more support is needed and that is why we are working with Netmums to provide a new Problem Shared ... Problem Solved service. Launched in April and funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families, Netmums is the biggest social network for mothers in the UK, with more than 450,000 members. It is unique in that it is based around local communities, with a national forum, the Coffee House.
