Our best practice: Innovative Sure Start for teenagers to broaden skills
Millmead Children's Centre now provides a youth service for children aged 12 to 18 years in partnership with Kent County Council. Some of the children from the original Sure Start are accessing this service where staff and young people participate in activities. Healthy eating is the most popular theme among the teenagers, with staff and children preparing healthy meals.
The centre uses the expertise and model of integrated working from its Children's Centre for the teenagers group and feedback from teenagers and parents is positive. Millmead Children's Centre is now a social enterprise and its approach is being well received by the community. It hopes to further develop the service and undertake a full evaluation.
