Member: The Children's Rights Alliance.

The Children's Rights Alliance is a coalition of over 80 NGOs working to secure the rights and needs of children in Ireland, by campaigning for the full implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. It aims to improve the lives of all children, through securing the necessary changes in Ireland's laws, policies and services.

High on the agenda is a proposal to amend the 1937 Irish Constitution - written when children were "seen and not heard" - to strengthen children's rights, by a national referendum. The Alliance has been campaigning for constitutional change for years.

In February, the Alliance was the first NGO to present its submission to the parliamentary committee, tasked with formulating the amendment's wording. The challenge now facing the Alliance is to ensure the referendum fulfills its potential to secure a positive and lasting impact on children's lives.
