Our best practice Peer education puts sex and relationship education (SRE) in an accessible, real-life context.
Teenage pregnancy charity Straight Talking's partnership with CYPS Trafford found peer education addresses one of the main criticisms of SRE: that it is over-mechanical and lacks a real-life context.
Straight Talking's programme - training teenage parents to deliver courses about parenthood - was extremely well-received by Year 9 students. The smaller age gap increased identification and the interactive delivery created an inclusive learning experience. Staff commented on the maturity of students, plus an improved ability to talk about SRE. Straight Talking also acts as a stepping stone into education, employment and training.
