In order to address this, NCB, the Council for Disabled Children, the Alliance for Inclusive Education and the Children's Society are conducting a three-year research project, Developing the Participation of Young Disabled People.
Funded by the Big Lottery Fund, the project will explore the most effective ways of enabling young disabled people's participation in the development of services and strategic planning in their local areas. Integral to the project is the recruitment of 16 young disabled people who will be involved as young researchers.
At present, the project is identifying innovative practice on how services are involving young disabled people through a call for evidence for a national literature review. The next phase is a consultation, mapping young disabled people's involvement in the development of services, barriers to their involvement and the issues in supporting effective practice.
