NCB Now: Exercises for the brain at NCB course

Primary school teachers attending a half-day training course at NCB were shown how exercise and movement can prepare children for learning and act as an identification tool for those with developmental problems.

The course explained how the benefits of exercise include improved reflexes and memory. It also looked at how exercise can be built into a school timetable.

Course facilitator Michelle Draisey, a teacher at All Cannings School in Wiltshire, devised the programme to support pupils on the special educational needs register.

"The programme proved so successful at All Cannings that exercise sessions are now available to all pupils, resulting in a positive effect on their learning and concentration in lessons," said Michelle.

Due to positive feedback NCB will offer two more exercise and movement training courses in 2005.
