More than 500 parents responded and the following comment summarises the changes that parents would make: "That our children are valued, celebrated and included right from the start, and do not become just a funding issue."
A key service priority for parents of disabled children is a regular, reliable and appropriate short break. Disabled children also benefit from the opportunity to have a break from their family and enjoy new experiences.
The collective voice of parents from the survey illustrates this point powerfully: "Respite for my daughter provides some social life with her peers outside of school and gives me time to spend with my other children and recharge my mind and body. I need to be a mum, not just a carer."
