NCB Now: Comment - Why care plans must include young people

1 min read
In June 2008, the government launched a national strategy to improve the lives (and life chances) of England's six million family carers. At the same time, a consultation was launched on the future of social care in England, as a precursor to a green paper later this year and legislation in 2009. The Case for Change - Why England Needs a New Care and Support System has been described as starting the most important debate since William Beveridge drew up his plans for the first welfare state.

Most young people feared a possible break-up of the family if they demanded more support.
