The single biggest issue facing children and young people living with HIV in the UK is stigma. For the majority, advances in medication and health care means they will live healthy lives long into adulthood.

However, due to the high levels of stigma and discrimination that surround HIV, many children and young people living with HIV live in secrecy and isolation. For many young people this can be an exhausting experience:

"I'm sick of all the secrets - sometimes I just want to tell everyone and get it out in the open but I don't know what their reactions will be. They might not have the knowledge that I do."

"In an RE lesson my teacher said that if he found out he was HIV positive he would shoot himself. I've never been back to his lesson since."
