NCB Now: Alternative provision awarded status

1 min read
Waltham Forest's alternative education provision programme, Vision and Focus12, has been awarded Healthy Schools Status, making the east London programme the first of its kind to fulfil all the criteria.

Healthy Schools Status is a long-term initiative that promotes links between health, behaviour and achievement by emphasising the importance of physical activity, healthy eating, emotional wellbeing and personal, social, health and economic education. In order to be eligible for the award, the Vision and Focus12 team had to pass an audit of the four areas, in which a Healthy Schools team examined several projects, including film-making, food preparation and presentations produced by students.

While all alternative provision must attain Healthy Schools Status by 2012, progress has been slow. The success of Vision and Focus12 is due to the efforts of all students and staff, the VT Education and Skills Change for Children team in Waltham Forest, and NCB's Life Routes programme.
