Natural play areas for London children

1 min read Education
Areas of sand, mud and water are to be added to London's parks as part of a 120,000 pound project being launched by London Play.

The project aims to reshape some of the capital's parks in a bid to encourage children to use the natural environment while playing.

The work could include the use of fallen trees as climbing frames, areas of bamboo for children to hide in, sandpits and the creation of landscaped areas for off-road cycling.

Alan Sutton, policy and development officer at London Play, told CYP Now: "The project will focus on the importance of natural environments for children. Research shows children are less stressed and feel more relaxed in green settings.

"There has also been evidence that green environments could have benefits for the behaviour of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autistic spectrum disorders," he added.
